Jennifer Wright |
Jennifer Wright has been with Masquer since their first production of Traveling Light in 2004. She has been featured in Love to tell the Story (2005), and One Voice (2006).
She will soon be seen in the 2006 summer tour of Traveling Light. MM: Jenn, what is your earliest theatre memory? Jenn: Well, theater memory, not just "show" memory...obscure amount of unnamed points for those who know the difference. The time that comes to mind would be when I was on stage in an odd tree costume in a odd pose waiting for the Scarecrow and Dorothy to pass by on the yellow brick road. MM: What is your favourite passage of scripture? Jenn: "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Joshua 1:5 MM: How about your most memorable theatre moment? Jenn: The first time I was in Godspell in 2003, during the finale I walked down the center isle with a very talented actor. I fell at the lip of the stage trying to restrain my grief because Jesus just died. Earlier in the show Jesus had given us bits of fabric to represent we were a part of his group then at the last supper traded those in for a key. This talented actor picked up his key and showed it to me, I grabbed mine, looked at him then just past his shoulder saw Jesus come from behind him. It was a great time there! MM: What is/was your favourite subject in school? Jenn: Acting and World Art History. I did independent studies in high school. MM: What would we find in your refrigerator? Jenn: Now? Grapes, bread, cheese, pasta sauce... I have an Italian refrigerator. MM: Do you have any pre-show traditions? Jenn: Prayer is always a part, no matter the show or where it is. I always get to the theater at least a half an hour before call time because I like to be in the space. Other than that though every play is different, it's a different creative process. I, as an artist need to approach each project in a new way. MM: What are some differences between regular, & ministry theatre? Jenn: Ministry theater is much more fulfilling. I am not one of those actors that goes into a project to get something, no matter what the play. With regular theater, you give and on very rare occasions you will actually get something back. With ministry theater you give and you receive a hundred fold what you put into it, through, cast fellowship, spiritual growth, audience response and growth and God's blessings because you are where He wants you to be. MM: What are you currently reading? Jenn: I am in the middle of Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien (again), So You Want To Be An Interpreter by Humphrey and Alcorn (again) and Psalms (again) MM: When you're not at Masquer, what would we find you doing? Jenn: I am a freelance interpreter for the Deaf and work at Golden West College as a on staff interpreter, plus I am the interpreter for Anaheim First Church of the Nazarene. So signing. Other than that, a little bit of school, hanging out with friends, at different Bible studies etc. MM: What's your favourite Masquer memory? Jenn: That's like asking pick a favorite star in the sky. I will name one memorable time with Masquer... Taking John and Ian to get their first bears from Build -a- Bear after having a horrid rehearsal from our first try at Traveling Light. MM: What has been the most challenging aspect of this ministry? Jenn: The spiritual warfare and remaining the family of God through the times when Satan attacks us at our most vulnerable time. MM: How is it working with such a diverse group of people? Jenn: Diverse? We all at least have two things in common and those two things being nearest to all of our hearts, God and the arts. This family of believers could be the least diverse group of people I have worked with. MM: Who is the toughest audience? Jenn: I know the stock answer is "yourself". That's really not true though. It's Satan and his demons, at least in ministry theater. They are the ones to tell you, you were horrid and that you will never amount to anything. MM: Who would you choose to play you in the production of your life? Jenn: Sarah Garcia, wonderfully talented lady who understands a lot of what my life has been...she was there for a good majority of it. I can only wish to be as pretty as she is though. MM: What must you have with you in rehearsal? Jenn: Patience. MM: What is your favorite quote? Jenn: "If you can talk you can sing and if you walk you can dance" -unknown MM: What is the 1st question you ask yourself before approaching a role? Jenn: What will God say? Then I ask Him. MM: What is your greatest indulgence? Jenn: Literature. MM: Who is on the guest list of your perfect dinner party? Jenn: My close family and current close friends. I know it would sound cool if I put people like Teddy Roosevelt and Katharine Hepburn at the table ...but I don't know them. My perfect dinner party would be around loved ones, not one with random dead and famous people... besides if that were to happen news anchors would be banging at the door... and who wants that? MM: What do you want us to know about you? Jenn: I love learning about people. So if you see me walking about come talk to me...that is if I don't have lighting equipment or my hands full with something else. |
